This presentation covers the history of Muskellunge management on Chautauqua Lake from the late 1800’s to the present day. Including commercial fishing, recreational fishing and the development and evolution of Muskellunge hatchery operations. The main focus is on how fisheries management actions, such as stocking policies and hatchery rearing procedures, have impacted the Muskellunge population in Chautauqua Lake.
Biography:
Christopher Legard is an aquatic biologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Buffalo, NY. Chris received a B. S. in Natural Resources from Oregon State University and an M. S. in Fish and Wildlife Biology and Management from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He is currently the biologist in charge of fisheries management on Chautauqua Lake and the Niagara River.
